# WhatsApp template sample messages

When [applying for WhatsApp template messages](https://clickatell.gitbook.io/whatsapp-user-guide/channel-capabilities/whatsapp-message-templates/add-message-templates) in the Clickatell Portal, users are now required to also include a sample message with their application. Providing an example of the type of messages you are planning to send increases the likelihood that WhatsApp will approve your template. This is applicable to both general text templates and rich media templates.

When creating the sample messages, the preview updates accordingly so that the user can see what the template would look like to their end-users. Once the user is satisfied with the preview, they can submit the template message with the sample message they've created.

Upon successful submission of the template, the template and sample message are displayed in the template details section (non-editable).
