# What is 10DLC?

10-digit long code (10DLC) is the new industry-led long code solution for North American application-to-person (A2P) business messaging utilizing a 10-digit phone number. 

10DLC registration applies **to all businesses that use US long numbers** to send and receive messages.

Clickatell assists you in gathering the required registration information for your application and submitting it to the Campaign Registry for carrier approval. 

Once both a brand and campaign have been approved, long numbers associated with it can be used to send and receive messages with the benefits of the 10DLC-sanctioned environment for A2P messaging. 

The Campaign Registry guidelines require users to follow industry best practices according to the [CTIA](https://api.ctia.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/190719-CTIA-Messaging-Principles-and-Best-Practices-FINAL.pdf).

To register your US long number on 10DLC:  

1. **Register a brand** and pay a brand registration fee. 
2. **Register one or more campaigns** for your brand and pay a campaign registration fee. 
3. **Link a US long number** to your campaign.
